Route 26 will take you right through Eagle
Harbor.
St. Peter's By the Sea is a landmark along
Route 26 going into Eagle Harbor.
Another land mark, just down the street is the
general store..
As Route M26 curves to the south, the road
leading to the Eagle Harbor Lighthouse goes straight east. There's a road
leading north just past the white house in the picture below. Follow that
road right down to the lighthouse property.
Final approach to the lighthouse. Turn north here.
You know you're getting close when you see the
Carriage House gift store.
The entrance to the lighthouse property.
On you left is the Keweenaw County Historical
Museum. Inside is a boatload of artifacts, including a 1926 Chrysler, one
of many rescued from a sinking ship.
View from the parking lot. The buildings, from
left to right, are the signal building, the lighthouse, the lightkeeper's
assistant's house and a secondary assistant's house. To the far left (and
out of the picture) is the observation deck.
The most popular buildings are these three. The
white shanty behind the boat was the paint storage building.
View of the signal building from the deck.
View down the road from the deck. The signal
building is on the right, the lighthouse walkway is in the middle, the
Keweenaw County Historical Museum is in the middle right and the parking
lot is on the far right.
The walk to the lighthouse starts with the
rudder of a 19th century shipwreck.
As you walk toward the lighthouse, Lake Superior
is to your left.
A view of the rear of the lighthouse. The
entrance to the lighthouse is on the right side, around the corner. The
white house to the right is for the lightkeeper's assistant.
The lighthouse as seen from the porch of the
white house.
The lighthouse grounds provide many spectacular
views of Lake Superior.
Eagle Harbor from the lighthouse grounds. That's
Brockway Mountain in the background.
A view of the three buildings from the front.
Don't slip on those rocks!
